Research
Alexis Tadié’s research focuses on Enlightenment studies (literature and philosophy), as well as on contemporary literatures in English. His interest in cultural history has also led him to study English literature’s encounters with the East as well as literary representations of sports.
He studies the literary and intellectual disputes of the Enlightenment, the theory of fiction, and, more recently, adaptations of eighteenth-century texts. He is concerned with the interactions between literary forms, knowledge, and cultural practices, in the Enlightenment and beyond.
Alongside these interests, his studies in the cultural history of sport examine sport as a site of sociability and aesthetics. This interdisciplinary strand brings together literature, visual culture, and history, and has generated major collaborative research programmes and edited volumes.
His research has been supported by national and international funding, including projects funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR), the ANR–DFG France-Germany programme, the France–Canada Research Fund, and Horizon 2020. He has led and participated in collaborative networks involving colleagues in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, and India.
